Parking Garage

I walked into the Prospect Avenue entrance for the Whole Foods parking lot in Milwaukee. The structure had a lot of space and many angles for sound to bounce off of, yielding some echo. It gave normal sounds a lot more character.

Below Farwell

The Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee made an interesting recording environment. The bike trail follows the old North Shore train line, and travels beneath normal ground level in some areas. I walked beneath the Farwell Avenue bridge and witnessed some interesting reflection of sound off of the concrete and stone underside.

Twisted Alley

I walked into an alley off of Ivanhoe Place in Milwaukee, behind The Twisted Fork, to observe the soundscape. As I was walking around, I noticed a fence and began to listen to the sounds coming from within it. A restaurant employee was taking out trash, and thought I was looking for ghosts. I explained what I was doing, and he told me it was alright for me to record inside the gate.

Big rig problems

I walked down Newhall Street in Milwaukee and found a lot of semi-trailer traffic. I clipped my microphones to a chain link fence along the east side of the road and witnessed a truck pass that seemed to be having some problems.

Dragging Weight

I was walking down Greenwich Avenue in Milwaukee and found a large, rusted, metal weight attached to a rope. I lowered my microphone sensitivity, placed them on the ground, and recorded the sound of the weight being dragged across the asphalt and cement along the side of the road. There was a rusted nail on the road which I did not notice at first, but surely did once the weight ran over it.

This is what I heard 34 seconds

Drift Strategy

My drift strategy consisted of drawing a star on a map and walking wherever I could within that star. That means I ventured off the sidewalk into buildings and alleyways. It provided me with some interesting situations.
